Our origin
It all began in 2020, when the world came to a standstill. The coronavirus lockdown meant we weren’t allowed to go outside for a while, and this left some people feeling lonely. For many, this was an incredibly difficult time.
To bring people together, help spread love and offer a word of encouragement to anyone going through a tough time, the idea was born not just for a website or an online shop where you could buy an ordinary item, but for a partner that helps you spread love.
Whether you’re making a cuddly friend yourself or sending a surprise parcel to someone you love, we believe that a homemade teddy bear can chase away all worries and bring hearts closer together again.
FROM PIONEER TO FURRY FRIEND
When Maak een Beer launched in 2020, it was the first online shop to bring the ‘build-a-bear-at-home’ concept to Belgium. Although the market grew later on and some competitors disappeared, Maak een Beer remains true to its original mission.
Fortunately, the pandemic is behind us, but our passion for spreading love has only grown stronger. Maak een Beer is still here to help you create a unique, personalised soft toy. Because a soft toy you make yourself has a soul. And that soul is made of love, patience and a touch of plush magic.
